What Do You Want To Do When You Grow Up?

First Listed April 7, 2009

Imagination How many times were you asked this question when you were growing up? I remember being asked countless times.

Why are we asked this question so much as children? It seems like there’s such importance put on this. Why can’t we just play and enjoy being kids instead of being rushed into thinking what the heck we want to do with our lives at such a young age.

Some of us as young children do know what we want to do and that’s great. Hopefully it is truly coming from the child and not from what everyone is telling him/her what he/she should be.

I remember my dad always saying to me, when I was growing up, that I should go into a field where my job would always be steady and needed such as a pharmacist. The ‘pharmacist’ scenario would show up periodically at different times as I was growing up. I know he was only doing what he thought was the best for me, but I have to say, thank goodness (and nothing against pharmacists) I didn’t become one. The reason being is it would have been solely to please him and not me.

I realize parents, teachers, friends and family are really only looking out for us, but I believe we all need to make that decision for ourselves and let it happen naturally. I know some people who were pressured into doing what they thought they wanted to do, but after time realized that it’s what someone else wanted for them. I also think many of us, into our adult lives, still aren’t sure what the heck it is we want to do when we grow up.

If this is resonating with you a little and you’d like to discover how to let others BE and find their own way, then check out this other post. If you want to discover how you can go about finding out what your life purpose is, then check out the abundant possibilities!

Many blessings and wishing you a life of doing and being what you Love!
