Total Body Gratitude

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like
wrapping a present and not giving it.”
~William Arthur Ward
I talked recently with an amazing woman, Teresa Bahder. Teresa brought to my attention how much our body automatically does for us, without having to consult us, to keep us healthy and balanced.
Do you have gratitude for all your body does? Do you think of the body as out to kill you, or do you harm?
I have to admit Teresa awakened me to some thoughts and beliefs I have had about my body. If you’ve read about my journey, you will know that I have, and still do at times, dealt with anxiety issues. These issues, which I realize are conditioned beliefs from when I was growing up, deal a lot with health and fear of death (stemming from my father’s death when I was younger). When I have anxiety, I realize now that my body is trying to tell me something – something that needs to be brought out into the light so I can integrate it, instead of suppressing it down further.
Our bodies really are miracles! Think, for a moment, what actions our bodies perform to regulate our inner ecosystem without us having to figure it out:
- breathes
- circulates our blood
- gets rid of foreign invaders by raising our body temperature
- expels toxins – yes, this may not be a pleasant thing for most of us and it means we have to hit the toilet, but it’s better than the alternative if we didn’t get it out
- has it’s own protective barrier (our skin)
- breaks down food and digests it
and a ton more!
I know at times our body does break down and some dis-ease appears, but did you ever think that maybe it’s because we didn’t pay attention to the many messages our body was trying to tell us previously?
What do you think? Are you amazed at what your body does? It has shed such a different light on how I look at my body and I hope this helps you too. Let me know by sharing a comment below!
Give your body a hug today for all it does!
With gratitude,
Gina

Hi Gina, Six month ago, i had what i call spiritual awakening, a month after this amazing experience, i started having thought of how i should look after my body – prior, i did not give my body a second thought. But for some reason, these thoughts were so strong, i could not ignor them. i suddenly knew food i should not eat or to avoid, i had this strong urge to keep fit and i started telling my body how much i love it At first i felt really silly, but every time i spoke to my body by praising it and telling it how beautiful it was, i started to feel great about myself. It then led me to start reading spiritual books – to my surprise, some of the book i read confirmed exactly what i was experiencing. From that day on, i talk to my body every day, i thank my body for talking back to me – by paying attention to every single feeling i encounter. The journey has been amazing and this feeling of happiness within still remains.

Hi Diana,
That’s amazing – thanks for sharing. Our bodies really are miracles, aren’t they – we just need to remember this so we stay tuned in and listen to them. Having this awareness you developed is wonderful.
Many blessings on your continuing journey.
