To Flow with Change, Breathe It In

How well do you deal with change?

Change is a concept that many people have an issue with……if we didn’t have any issues with change, there would be no anxiety. And the reason there would be no anxiety is because there would be no resistance.

An area I hear a lot of resistance to is the change in the seasons……some people love the change and others hate it……..how do you feel about the changing of the seasons? Especially when the season that is nearing brings with it less light and more dark?

 
Any time you resist ‘what is’, anxiety can show up.

“Accept – then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it.”

Let’s say the darker season is riding in and the days are getting shorter and shorter and you particularly do not like that change at all.

What if you just allowed the darker season to flow in without any stories about how much you dread it coming? How would not telling those stories to yourself impact your life at that time?

Anxiety Busting Tip:

Think of what you are resisting in your life right now.

Notice the story behind that resistance. Then notice the feelings that surface for you as you think of this story.

Now notice the sensations that surface in your body as a result of those feelings.

Put all your attention on those sensations in your body and feel them for a few minutes. Don’t name what you are feeling, just feel them. (are you resisting doing this? notice if there is any resistance showing up – if you feel resistance, I invite you to feel it and do it anyway)

After those few minutes, take a nice deep belly breath and notice how you are feeling.

Then notice what it is that you would really like to change in your life.
