Medicine Wheel

First Listed October 13, 2008

Medicine WheelOne morning last week it was so beautiful out I decided to go to the beach. I went to Long Branch which is the beach I usually like to go to. Another reason I went there is because I wanted to go to a store called Sacred Circle. I checked out its website and it looked like my kind of store so I went.

I made a few purchases -one which was this Medicine Wheel you see in the picture. It was handcrafted by a woman named Talking Bird. I was immediately drawn to this one (they had a few hanging from the ceiling) and I was curious about the design on it. I read the tag and it explained that the design was a symbol for the four directions:

  • Black (west) is for the thunder beings who send rain
  • White (north) brings a cleansing wind
  • Red (east) brings light and wisdom
  • Yellow (south) is the direction of summer and the power to grow

I was told by Al, one of the owners of Sacred Circle, that it would be good to hang this right above my clients in my treatment room because it helps with healing energy. So that’s what I did – it actually is hanging right past and above where the head of my client would be when they lay on the massage table.

I immediately felt the energy it brought to the room and am grateful to Talking Bird for creating such a beautiful piece.

If you are down in Long Branch, I recommend checking out Sacred Circle New Age Center. It’s a really cool New Age store and they also hold different classes there such as yoga and drumming circles.

What do you think of this piece? Do you have any Medicine Wheels or Dream Catchers hanging in your home or work area? Any New Age stores you’d like to share with us?

with gratitude,

I love Dreamcatchers and have several, my most favourite one is a simple handmade one by a Celtic Shaman from Wales, UK, which he made as a gift for me.
The Medicine Wheel is a wonderful life guide and the more you get into the teachings the more you can allow yourself to be guided by them. It is a physical reminder that we are all a part of the Sacred Hoop of Life.
    Aho! Mitakuye Oyasin!

    Hi Elly,
I love your comments! This is my first time experiencing the Medicine Wheel so now I’m really intrigued and will continue to learn more about them.
    Thanks so much for sharing!
