Freedom

I am truly grateful to live in a country where I have the opportunity to do what I want, eat what I want, wear what I want, talk the way I want and vote.

But today has me thinking about another piece of Freedom………the piece that has to do with our inner Freedom.

I believe the Freedom we all think of today has to do mostly, not all, but mostly, with our outer Freedom…….which is just as important. But cultivating inner Freedom has the ability to free each of us, and the world, in an even deeper way.

I believe that if we all were aware of the thoughts we think daily, and if we realized where those thoughts come from, and how negative and self-limiting they truly are, then there would be more peace in the world…..and truly more freedom……..

……that is If we didn’t listen to the thoughts that say:

~ You are better than that person

~ You shouldn’t like that person because he/she is different

~ You aren’t enough

~ You need to show that person that you are better and stronger

~ You need to have more than that person so you feel stronger

~ You don’t have enough….you need to take more

~ Don’t let that other person outdo you

These negative, self-limiting thoughts tend to, if you let them, create fear within you. And it’s this fear that has people believing that they need to do something ‘outside of themselves’ in order to feel worthy and less fearful.

I’ve seen this happen over and over in people around me, and out in the world. It doesn’t work.

This type of thinking leaves out Love. And when love is missing, fear is present, and so actions are taken in regard of this fear…….and those actions are usually not nice ones.

However, if we realize the conditioned thoughts and habitual tendencies that run continually through our minds, then we can finally choose to think other thoughts…..ones that empower us and the world.

Then Self-Love could cut through the fear, one person at a time.

What are you thoughts?

  1. Hi Jo! yes, I so highly agree with you……how wonderful would it be not to pass on mental junk from generation to generation……when you think about it, it really doesn’t have to be that way…….if you’re willing to do the work that will make you Free…….guess it’s really how much you want to be free and your commitment to doing it……..

    I’m commited……..whooohoo!

  2. Having grown up in South Africa, I think about the concept of freedom a lot. To me it’s not simply just about legal freedoms or human rights but how we free ourselves from mental slavery (to quote Bob Marley). I feel that this is the challenge of our generation so that we don’t pass it on to the next and so on. It’s karmic work.
