Feel To Heal

First Listed September 21, 2011

“Instead of resisting any emotion, the best way to dispel it is to enter it fully, embrace it and see through your resistance.”

~ Deepak Chopra

“Whatever you fight, you strengthen, and what you resist, persists.”

~ Eckhart Tolle

Have you ever heard of that saying, “you gotta feel it to heal it”? This also pertains to the emotions that surface up within our being – you gotta feel to heal!

But what tends to happen for most people is you feel an unwanted emotion and try to ignore it by reaching for a carb-loaded snack or by turning the television on or taking it out on a loved one.

And this ‘avoiding the feeling’ only pushes it down deeper into your soul. Your body will keep on trying to get your attention in some way or another because it loves you that much. But we don’t think of it in that way…..we tend to think of our body more as the enemy, instead of the living, magical and loving miracle that it is.

How do you feel about your body? Is it your friend or your enemy?

I never thought about this until someone else asked me that same question. Then I realized when I really looked at the answer, that I did see my body as more of an enemy. When the health issues surfaced I would think that my body let me down. I would think that is was my body’s fault as to why I got this dis-ease. It was quite an Aha moment for me when I realized this.

So by feeling this way, it totally disconnected me from my body……..why would I want to be connected to something I saw as my enemy? Then after I had this Aha moment, a shift happened and I looked at my body in a new way, with a new perspective. I became grateful for all my body has done for me. It was truly keeping this dis-ease at bay for as long as it could. My immune system was strong and protecting me for quite a long time. What a friend I had! This friend was keeping me safe and healthy, working overtime to allow me to keep moving forward for as long as it could……..a very loyal friend.

Then once I discovered this love and gratitude I had for my body, I took care of it better than ever and I was able to not only heal the dis-ease, but I discovered a whole other world within.

I discovered my body was my secret messenger. I now pay attention each and every time I get a signal from it. The body doesn’t lie, so when I notice a sensation, I Feel it so I can Heal it before it has a chance to turn into anything else…….plus my body is so much happier because it doesn’t have to work so hard……..it has my attention and a new friend.

So the next time a feeling surfaces within you, what’s your plan? Will you go grab that chocolate donut or will you stop for a moment and check in to see what your loyal friend is trying to tell you?

inhale~enjoy~exhale,

Gina

    Hi Gina,

This is such a good and grounding article, and freeing if it can be achieved. That’s what I’m trying to do these days, connect more with my body and my mind and my emotions, including the uncomfortable ones. Having ASD makes it more challenging to me because I do not deal with change or anything new very well, and upsetting emotions tend to be confusing or crushing to me, but I want to do better and I find a lot of inspiration in what you’ve said here in this post. I am looking forward to reading more of your blog and understanding these things better.

    Bright Blessings,

Thank you so much Bird…really appreciate your comment. I acknowledge your courage to connect with those uncomfortable emotions……that’s really where the juicy part is…..if you can connect with those….you are truly on the path to knowing your divine Self, to healing, and to truly being free!

    much love!

[...] I’ve dealt with a lot of change throughout my life, and I’m sure you have too. It took me a long time, but I don’t dread it anymore. I actually get more curious about it rather than anxious. But that doesn’t mean change doesn’t get me anxious sometimes. But when it does, I notice the anxiety and I get curious as to what my body is trying to tell me. [...]
