Do You Live Like A Zombie?
First Listed December 25, 2008
Do you ever do things so automatically that you can’t even remember doing them? For instance, locking your car without realizing it, or reading a couple pages in a book but then not remembering what the heck you just read, or trying to remember if you took your vitamins today?
I receive a newsletter daily from CompassionWorks called The Daily Now. I look forward to reading it every day. It has a few quick short excerpts from the writings of Eckhart Tolle, Michael Brown and others. Below is one of those excerpts from The Daily Now that was in my in-box today that I wanted to share with you.

The words below by Michael Brown made me realize what a huge role the little things we do every day can play in becoming more present. It’s amazing how we physically do little chores and activities all day but are stuck in our heads – stuck in the constant stream of thoughts. We go about our day not being present of what we are doing at each moment. We are interrupted by our thoughts which keep us either in the past or in the future. It’s kind of like being a zombie!
Aromatherapy Luminary Tip on how not to be a zombie.
Take time out of your day every day to use your senses as your go about your daily activities. Buy some flowers and look and smell them every day to bring you into the present moment. If you’re cleaning or doing laundry, feel the different textures of the clothing and the warmth of the clothes as you take them out of the dryer. Inhale some amazing essential oils that you love every day to totally engage your senses and stimulate your awareness.
I hope you enjoy the short excerpt below. I’d love to hear about any of your zombie-like experiences. What’s your tips for staying present? Click the comments below to share!
Much gratitude,
Gina

PHYSICAL PRESENCE
If we have a friend whose house we visit for an hour or so once a week, and have been doing this for a few years, we may assume that we know the inside of their house.
But if this friend asks us to housesit for them, we may become quite surprised at what unfolds: we will start to notice things we never saw before.
It could be a crack in the wall, a certain picture, or an ornament that was always there but somehow remained unnoticed.
The longer we stay in our friend’s house, the more detail we will absorb.
We may wonder, “How come did we not see all this before?” The answer is simple: we were always just passing through.
We were never present in their house for any real length of time.
This is our predicament when we live in a time-based paradigm;
we are never consistently physically present, we are just passing through the body on our way to another mental concept.
