Dare to be Bold ~ Trust30 ~ Prompt #7
First Listed June 6, 2011
I am participating in #Trust30, an online initiative and 30-day writing challenge that encourages you to look within and trust yourself.
I signed up because it WILL be a challenge for me to write for 30 days consecutively, but it’s a challenge I want to accomplish. I’m doing my best to keep up with this commitment
. So here I am at day 7 – and still going – I’m actually having fun writing daily – it’s an inner exploration adventure!
Prompt #7
“Our arts, our occupations, our marriages, our religion, we have not chosen, but society has chosen for us. We are parlour soldiers. We shun the rugged battle of fate, where strength is born.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Next to Resistance, rational thought is the artist or entrepreneurs worst enemy. Bad things happen when we employ rational thought, because rational thought comes from the ego. Instead, we want to work from the Self, that is, from instinct and intuition, from the unconscious.
A child has no trouble believing the unbelievable, nor does the genius or the madman. Its only you and I, with our big brains and our tiny hearts, who doubt and overthink and hesitate.” – Steven Pressfield, Do the Work
The idea of “being realistic” holds all of us back. From starting a business or quitting a job to dating someone who may not be our type or moving to a new place – getting “real” often means putting your dreams on hold.
Today, let’s take a step away from rational thought and dare to be bold. What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to accomplish but have been afraid to pursue? Write it down. Also write down the obstacles in your way of reaching your goal. Finally, write down a tangible plan to overcome each obstacle.
The only thing left is to, you know, actually go make it happen. What are you waiting for?

Oh boy, Ok, I’m putting it out there……..I’ve always wanted to learn to dance! The Latin dances that is…..
~ Salsa
~ Merengue
~ Rumba
~ Samba
~ Cha Cha Cha
~ Mambo
Yep, all the above, lol! And wouldn’t you know it, a dance studio opened up in my town about a year ago. I mean, can the Universe make it any easier for me, ha.
Some days when I passed by that studio, I did think about going in and just checking it all out. But there definitely are some obstacles holding me back such as :
1. ~ What will the teachers be like? (I mean if they are like Max or Derrick, I’m totally there!)
2. ~ With my muscle weakness, I’m not sure I could last a whole dance
3. ~ I’d have to partner up with strangers…………..
4. ~ What if I suck
5. ~ uh, maybe I just don’t have the time (now we all know this is just a big excuse)
Ok, a plan to overcome each obstacle:
1. I can go in the studio and meet the teachers.
2. Let’s be honest…it’s not like I’m going to be dancing in a competition the first few lessons……I think my body could probably hold up. I could at least try anyway.
3. Yikes…….I guess I can just suck it up…..but what if……..ok, not even going there……it’s all about trying and just taking a chance.
4. Again, try it and you’ll see. I can dance……I just never did any Latin dances……but I think after a few months, I’d be ok
.
5. If you really want to do something, you find the time…….and if I really want to do this, I’ll find the time.
So now what am I waiting for……hmmm……..maybe a friend to learn it with me
.
