Come Alive ~ Trust30 ~ Prompt #6

First Listed June 5, 2011

I am participating in #Trust30, an online initiative and 30-day writing challenge that encourages you to look within and trust yourself.

I signed up because it WILL be a challenge for me to write for 30 days consecutively, but it’s a challenge I want to accomplish. I’m doing my best to keep up with this commitment :) . So here it is, day 6 – almost a week straight of posting!

Prompt #6

Come Alive by Jonathan Mead

Life wastes itself while we are preparing to live. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

If you had one week left to live, would you still be doing what you’re doing now? In what areas of your life are you preparing to live? Take them off your To Do list and add them to a To Stop list. Resolve to only do what makes you come alive.

Bonus: How can your goals improve the present and not keep you in a perpetual “always something better” spiral?

I really like this prompt. I believe that sometimes we plan way too much, and for the wrong reason, and it’s keeps us living outside the Present Moment………and this is something I used to do. I used to think, well, once this happens, then all will be good, or when I finally get there, I’ll be happy, or if I just do this one thing, then I’ll be ok.

Life is now. It’s not tomorrow, it’s not yesterday, it’s not in a year…..it’s NOW. Whatever you think about happening tomorrow, will happen in the Now; when you think about the past, you are thinking about it in the Now; when that year mark rolls around, it rolls around in the Now.

If I had one week left to live, I would do more of what I wrote about in Prompt #1. I would regret nothing. I love what I’m doing in my life. And in the past couple years, especially in the past 7 months, I have enjoyed Life so much more because of my awareness practices.

One area I think I’ve been preparing for is ‘when I’m successful’. When I think this way, what I’m really saying is that I’m not successful now. Which when I ponder this and become aware of what my body is feeling…………I feel the opposite…………I feel that I truly am already successful. I actually feel quite a shift just from writing this. I am successful in so many ways and I am going to remember this going forward.

My goals are going to improve the present, in that they are going to be more about what’s happening in the moment, present-moment brainstorming, and by mindfully discovering, in each moment, what would serve me best. And by making short visits with my future goals – not hanging out there wishing those things were already done – that would take me back to the mindset I described earlier of, ‘if this was done, then all would be perfect’. I will spend more time on that which would serve me right in this moment, in the Here and Now. Ahhhh……now that feels good!
