Claim Your Emotional Baggage

First Listed November 8, 2010

Emotions……..phew………a day doesn’t go by where a slew of emotions (or at least a couple) enter my mindstream, and thus my body…….how about you?

As a human, you can feel lots of emotions on a daily basis and this is all fine and dandy as long as you really ‘feel’ them. It’s when you let your emotions take you over and you believe that story you are telling yourself that keeps encircling your brain. Don’t leave all that emotional luggage at the baggage area. Pick it up and claim it so it doesn’t go round and round on the baggage carousel of your mind.

It’s OK to feel your emotions.

Emotions only become a problem when you suppress them. By this I mean a thought goes through your mind and then becomes an emotion in your body and you try to ignore that emotion. You do this by either heading to the fridge or closet for some comfort food or by keeping yourself busy with some other form of activity such as watching TV. You do anything and everything not to feel that emotion that surfaced in your body.

Do you think there is something wrong with you if you feel certain emotions?

Let me squash that thought right here and now. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you when you feel certain emotions. You are allowed to feel sad, angry or anxious as long as you don’t identify yourself as that emotion. You can be sad and still be ok.

If you try to resist your feelings and not truly feel them, that is when they will show up once again, trying to get your attention so to bring to surface some unresolved issue you never dealt with. If you decide to empower yourself and deal with that emotion, you will feel a lightness and expansion of your being………….

…………so feel your emotions with every depth of your soul! Let those feelings flow through you so they do not get stuck in your body and form some kind of physical dis-ease down the road.
