5 Tools to Release Stress…….plus free guided meditation gift for you

First Listed December 21, 2009

We all experience stress throughout the year, but it can be amped up to a mega-level around the holidays.

In my own experience, and from what I see go on around me, stress is the major cause of many ailments. I don’t believe the holidays were meant to be this stressful, do you?

It’s also ironic to me, that this time of year with the occurrence of Winter Soltice (which is today – Happy Soltice!), we are meant to go within, into the darkness and slow down, even sleep more if needed. But the holidays bring in this whir of energy, spinning and trapping everyone into a ‘stress zone’ that makes us do the exact opposite; we sleep less, eat more junk, exercise less and overall take less time for ourselves.

In the past few years I’ve been simplifying my life in many ways and this includes the holidays as well. I’ve also discovered in the last few years some tools that have helped me release my stress and bring the level of tension I hold in my body to a much lower level.

I’m sharing these 5 tools to with you in the hope that maybe one will inspire you to try it and help release some stress and tension in your life and bring a little more joyful awareness into your day, every day!

So check out my top 5 year-round stress-busting tools below.

5 Tools to Release Stress:

  • Journaling ~ Write it and Release it! Everything is energy including stress. Many times it just needs a way to be released. Journaling is a great way to do this. Buy a journal or buy a plain notebook and turn it into your own, unique journal. You can get really creative and cut out things you love or quotes you love and glue them into your journal, making it a sacred space to write in. Grab a nice pen and your journal and just write. Let all your emotions flow onto the paper. Write until you feel everything that needed to come out, has come out. Notice how you feel afterward. Where is your stress level now? Has it diminished?
  • Movement ~ Move it or Lose it! Get your body flowin’! Dance, stretch, lunge, squat, walk, run, kick, punch, box, curl, push, pull, jump, hop, skip, press, lift, rotate, twist, squeeze, pivot, row, pedal, balance, crunch, breathe, grip, extend…………..get the drift? So many things you can do. Try something new out. Buy an exercise DVD or follow someone on YouTube. Movement releases stress, especially if you find a movement you love – your stress will decrease even more with each move.
  • Healthy Eating ~ You are What you Eat! Yes, we’ve all heard this before, but I so believe it. Try it. Eat fresh, healthy natural stuff like vegetables, beans, fruit and stay away from sugar and processed foods and notice how you feel. I bet you feel even better in a week. Your body can respond to stress in a more manageable way when your feeding it with healthy fuel. It will keep your immune system in better shape. (Of course if you have any medical concerns or conditions, consult your doctor first before changing your diet.)
  • Educate Yourself ~ Use that Mind Muscle and Keep Learning! When we learn, we grow. Just by you reading this article, and other articles, books and resources that benefit you, you can release stress. If you find what you’re passionate about and read and learn about it, do you think your stress level may decrease? I bet it does.
  • Guided Meditations ~ Visualize and Revitalize! I’ve been listening to guided meditations for years and have discovered they bust right through stress which is why I listen to one almost every day. You are taken on a journey where a voice and/or music guides you gently through a particular experience or visualization. Your entire body and mind totally relaxes and stress melts away.
